About Mrs. Cortez
I fell into theatre in high school when a friend took me to a theatre club meetingwhich turned out to be an audition. After my initial shock and fear, I auditioned for the play and landed a small role. The following semester I took Theatre I. A week or so into class, the teacher asked me to audition for the UIL One-Act Play, God’s Country. I was cast in the role of the boy. The show was an extremely powerful and controversial piece, and I learned so much from it and from my director and castmates. Most importantly, I learned the impact that theatre can have on an audience.
Since that experience, my love for theatre has only grown. I love the possibilities theatre offers to its players – the chance to be someone new, to walk a bit in someone else’s shoes, to make your imagination come to life…theatre offers all these things, and I find it amazing how much I’ve learned over the years.
My greatest hope is for my students to feel even a little bit of what I feel every day. My greatest joy is watching them grow and learn.
